Intel's Core i7 on a scale of 1-10 = YES

The Core i7 is an entirely redesigned quad core chip from Intel that was released to the masses about two weeks ago.

Possibly the biggest perk to the i7 series of processors is that the memory controller is integrated in the processor... That probably went way over most of your heads...

(If you understand how a processor works, please skip this analogy as it will be a waste of time.)

To better understand how a computer works, please read below:

Data is stored and accessed in Memory. When you open a document, data is retrieved from the memory and sent to the processor for execution, and out pops your document.

In this analogy:
You = Data
Your house = Memory
Your place of work = Processor
Congested freeways = Old Technology (Front Side Bus)

Think of the processor as your place of work. Say your commute lasts 20 Minutes due to overcrowded freeways and such. Now imagine if your place of work put in a road from your house to the office exclusively for you to use, completely eliminating the overcrowded and congested freeways. Now your commute takes only 5 minutes. Pretty cool right?

Intel has done away with all the 'congested freeways' of their old technology and provided a way for data to be accessed directly from the processor allowing for significantly faster throughput. They call this technology the QuickPath Interface.

Throughput:
How much data the computer can process in a given time.

Basically the processor is significantly faster and more efficient than previous chip updates. Some are comparing this to the Pentium 3 to Pentium 4 architecture leap Intel made 8 years ago.

If your looking to drop 3 Bens on the processor alone, the i7 is the way to go.

I'm gonna wait until the price drops some...

Thanks for reading!!!

HTC G1 (Dream) unveiled yesterday... No iPhone Killer (yet)

The end-all of cell platforms has been unleashed to the world and how is the world responding to this? HTC what?

For those of you who don't know, HTC is a manufacturer of cell, PDA and mini computing devices. They revealed to the public yesterday the G1: the first cellphone to ship with the Google built Operating System, Android. Although the phone offers the highly anticipated software from Google, the phone physically does not look so appealing. It's taller, thicker and heavier than the iPhone 3G.

The feature set of the G1 is pretty similar to the 3G. The biggest advantages to the G1 are a full QWERTY keyboard, a 1.2MP gain over the 3G (Totaling 3.2MP) and the idea of not having Steve Jobs (A.K.A. The Man) and his cult breathing down your neck... Oh wait, you'll just have Google there instead (A.K.A. Big Brother).

Do I hear a lesser of two evils debate coming on? Kind of sounds like politics...

What do I think? Well, I think it's no iPhone killer... I can almost guarantee that. I like the idea that HTC and Google might be throwing a decent amount of competition at Apple which could motivate Apple to make a better product and a better software development policy. I think that the phones potential to run almost any program will challenge the iPhone and it's lack of Java and other key languages.

What else do I think?
I think Google is blatantly plotting to take over the world with this software... Come on people, they named it Android! Do I need to remind you of what an android is?

Android:
a mobile robot usually with a human form

Mobilized ROBOTS! Buyer beware, if you are lasered to death by your HTC Dream, my theory has become fact. We will all be lasered to death by robot-phones... God save us all...

Geek vs Nerd

I am NOT a nerd!
Let me make this clear before you go any further with me.

According to Merriam-Websters dictionary:

  • A nerd is: an unstylish, unattractive, or socially inept person
  • A geek is: an enthusiast or expert especially in a technological field or activity
To reitterate, I am a not a NERD. I'm just someone who has an unusual obesession with technology and the communication skills necessary to write content for my blog.

Call me a nerd once... Strike one
Call me a nerd twice... Strike three

About Tech \\ Talk

Hey World,

I've decided to create a blog dedicated to all things tech. Anything and everything tech related can and will be posted here.

This may include, but is certainly not limited to:
  • Mac Stuff
  • DIY Tutorials
  • Linux Stuff
  • News
  • Google theories (taking over the world \\ Anti-Christ)
  • Information and buying advice
  • Typos and grammeros
One may ask why I'm doing this and honestly it's for fun. I've always stayed on top of tech news and feel like it's time to share what I know with the rest of the tech-illiterate world so that they may become literate and proficient when it comes to these gizmo things we call computers.

Rest assured, reading my posts will not be like a lecture and I will do my best to seamlessly integrate my amazing sense of humor (ha) into boring information that needs to be instilled into the brains of millions!

Here we go...
